  • Do you recommend specific vendors or products?

    No. cu:sode's network doesn't dictate our recommendations — your needs come first. That independence is the whole point of bringing in an outside advisor rather than asking a supplier what you should buy.

  • What size of company do you work with?

    Everything from a single department that needs a requirements document written properly, to organisations rethinking their entire IT strategy. The engagement scales; the approach doesn't change.

  • Do you only advise, or do you help execute?

#Transformation

  • What is digital transformation, really?

    Digital transformation is not primarily about technology. It is about developing the organization's ability to create value in a world where technology keeps changing the conditions. Systems, platforms and AI can enable that development, but they are not the destination.

  • Why do so many transformations fail?

    Because they begin with a solution before the organization has understood the problem. A new platform can be implemented successfully and still leave the underlying constraint untouched.

  • How do you know that transformation is needed?

    Watch for growing dependence on key individuals, manual checks, local spreadsheets and workarounds. These are often early signals that an important capability is quietly eroding.

  • Why do most transformations start too late?

    Organizations are remarkably good at compensating for weakness. People keep the business running long after the underlying model has stopped scaling. The transformation starts when the pain becomes visible, not when the problem began.

  • Is transformation a project or a capability?

    A transformation initiative may be run as a project. The ability to keep adapting, learning and improving is a capability. The second is ultimately more valuable than the first.

  • What is the most common reason investments disappoint?

    Organizations invest in systems while assuming that capabilities will follow automatically. Systems can be purchased. Capabilities must be built through ownership, knowledge, governance, behavior and repeated practice.

  • How should transformation success be measured?

    Measure what becomes genuinely better: decision quality, learning speed, customer outcomes, cross-functional coordination and reduced friction. A completed implementation is evidence of activity, not necessarily of transformation.

  • What is the biggest misconception about digitalization?

    That new technology automatically creates new behavior. More often, existing behavior adapts to the new technology, and the organization remains largely unchanged.

  • What should leadership teams discuss more often?

    Where value is lost between functions, where decisions lose context and where learning fails to influence future action.

    Which platform appears most impressive. Technology choices matter, but they should follow a clear understanding of the capability and outcome the business needs.

  • What is good leadership?

    Good leadership creates direction, context and an environment in which people can make better decisions together. It connects perspectives rather than assuming that one function sees the whole truth.

  • What is a leader's most important responsibility?

    To improve the conditions under which decisions are made: purpose, information, accountability, trust and learning.

  • What is poor leadership in transformation?

    Confusing activity with progress. Programs can be busy, budgets can be consumed and systems can go live while the organization's ability to create value remains unchanged.

  • How do leaders create direction?

    Start with intent. Why should anything change? What constraint, opportunity or risk must be addressed? Direction becomes credible when people understand the reason behind the transformation.

  • What characterizes strong leadership teams?

    They look across organizational boundaries. They discuss dependencies, value flows and the consequences that one function's decision creates elsewhere in the lifecycle.

  • Why is prioritization so difficult?

    Because almost every proposal has a legitimate business case. The challenge is not separating good ideas from bad ones. It is identifying which capabilities create the greatest leverage.

#PLM and the Product Lifecycle

  • What is PLM?

    PLM is a critical foundation for structured product development, product information, change, configuration and traceability. But it is not the entire product lifecycle.

  • What is the difference between PLM and the product lifecycle?

    PLM manages important parts of product development. The lifecycle is the full journey from customer need and requirement to sale, delivery, operation, service, feedback and learning.

  • Why does PLM often get blamed?

    Because many lifecycle symptoms become visible in engineering information. The symptom may appear in PLM even when the cause is unclear ownership, weak governance or a disconnect between engineering, sales and service.

  • What is the Product Lifecycle Gap?

    It is the loss of value that occurs when information, knowledge, decisions or accountability fail to move effectively through the lifecycle.

  • Where do the largest lifecycle problems arise?

    Often between functions rather than inside them. Every department can perform reasonably well while the overall outcome still disappoints.

  • What matters most to govern across the lifecycle?

    Decisions, responsibilities and the context that connects product definitions, commercial offerings and delivered or operated products.

  • What should PLM become better at supporting?

    Not only structured information, but also the context required to understand relationships, consequences and decisions across the lifecycle.

    The product and the value flow around it, not any individual system. No single platform owns the entire customer outcome.

  • Why is lifecycle thinking becoming more important?

    Products increasingly continue to evolve after delivery through software, services, upgrades and operational feedback. The lifecycle now behaves more like a loop than a chain.

  • How do you view AI?

    AI is a powerful amplifier of organizational knowledge and decision support. But its value depends on the quality of the context the organization can provide.

  • What does AI need in order to create value?

    Reliable product context: relationships, valid states, versions, rules, decisions, exceptions, ownership and authoritative sources.

  • What do you mean by context?

    Context is the meaning created by relationships. A document may describe a component, but context explains where it applies, under which conditions and with what consequences.

  • Why do many AI initiatives disappoint?

    They treat access to information as equivalent to understanding. Retrieval can find facts. Reliable decisions require context, governance and reasoning that the organization can explain.

  • Can AI replace experts?

    AI can make expert knowledge more accessible and scalable, but it does not automatically inherit the experience, assumptions and decision logic that experts have accumulated.

  • What is AI readiness?

    It is not only technical readiness. It is the organization's ability to make product knowledge explicit, current, connected, governed and usable in decisions.

  • What matters more than the model?

    The decision that the model is expected to improve. A sophisticated model creates little business value if the surrounding decision remains unclear.

  • What must AI understand?

    Not only what happened, but why it happened, which conditions applied, which alternatives were considered and what may be affected next.

  • What is the greatest AI risk?

    A confident answer that is linguistically convincing but operationally wrong because essential product or lifecycle context is missing.

    Do not build an organization that merely executes today's model efficiently. Build one that can learn faster than its problems and opportunities change. It should begin with intent: why the organization must change, what capability it needs to strengthen, and how people will know that the change created value. The future will not necessarily belong to the companies with the most systems or data. It may belong to those that have learned how to learn.
